Interesting! 222 years to A.S.Griboedov

222 year ago on 15 January Alexander Sergeevich Griboedov was born. He was a famous Russian diplomat, poet and playwright. His most well-know writing is a verse comedy "Woe for Wit" which contains a large number of phrases that define Russian mindset and have already become catch phrases in Russian language.

These prases include the following:

"Служить бы рад, прислуживаться тошно" // "I'd love to serve. Servility is what I hate"

"Свежо предание, а верится с трудом" // "Fresh is the story, yet it is doubtful to me"

"А судьи кто?" // "I wonder who the judges are" 

"Дома новы, но предрассудки стары" // "The houses are new, the prejudices are old"

"Ба! Знакомые все лица" // "My! I see familiar faces"

"Блажен, кто верует, - тепло ему на свете" // "Blessed are the credulous for they are carefree"

"И дым Отечества нам сладок и приятен" // "We're find the smoke of Homeland best"
