 08 march 2019

On the 7th of March the Moscow State University celebrated traditional Russian holiday - Malenitsa. This is a holiday of welcoming spring after the long winter.

Since March is still a very cold month, not to get cold the students started dancing traditional Russian dance which is called khorovod, when all participants take each other by hand to form a circle and start running in this circle.

The holiday at the MSU started with the speech of the MSU principal - V.Sadovnichy who congratulated those students who successfully passed all of the exams suring the examination session. Then all of the participants could taste the pancakes, prepared by the principal himself. They ate the pancakes with traditional Russian sweet sauces - condenced milk and raspberry jam. There was also mobile kitchen that offered very unusual for many foreign students dish - the buckweat porridge with tinned meat. But many students really liked it.

The celebration ended with burning the scarecrow, which is also a tradition for this holiday. The scarecrow is the symbol of winter and by burning it we say goodbye to winter and welcome spring. This part of the show was the most spectacular and the students who attended the celebration enjoyed it a lot.
