Teachers’ Day in China

 10 september 2023

Teachers’ Day was celebrated yesterday in China, where teachers traditionally have got a high status.
Teachers, who have often performed the role of mentors, have always been honoured and respected.
In 1984, Wang Zikun, the academician of Chinese Academy of Science and the president of Beijing Normal University, put forward the idea that teachers must have their professional holiday. He studied at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics MSU and he was impressed by the scale of Teachers’ Day in Russia. It is interesting that during his studies Wang Zikun attended the famous meeting between Mao Zedong and Chinese students who studied at various MSU faculties at that time.
On January 21, 1985, the Ninth session of Standing Committee of the National People's Congress adopted a resolution to celebrate Teachers’ Day in order to support and develop good traditions, to give respect for pedagogues, to place importance of education and improve teachers’ conditions. Since then every year on this holiday students in the whole China give flowers and gifts to their mentors and thank for their work.
We congratulate our Chinese colleagues on their professional holiday and wish creative success and well-being!
